Solar Inverters

We carry a full lineup of pure sine wave inverters and inverter/chargers — 12V, 24V, and 48V — for RVs, off-grid cabins, and whole-home backup systems.

High-Frequency vs. Low-Frequency: What's the Difference?

Every inverter below is tagged High-Freq or Low-Freq — that's the core design of the unit, not just a spec number, and it affects what it's actually good at.

High-Frequency

Uses a compact switching transformer instead of a big 60Hz one — the Renogy and Magnum units below.

  • Smaller, lighter, easier to mount
  • Higher efficiency, less idle power draw
  • Lower cost
  • Shorter-lived electronics than a transformer
  • Less surge headroom for hard-starting motors

Low-Frequency

Built around a large 50/60Hz transformer — every Outback, the Sunny Island, and the Schneider/Xantrex below.

  • Much higher surge capacity — often 3x rated power
  • Better for well pumps, compressors, and other motor/inductive loads
  • Transformer typically outlasts the electronics of an HF unit
  • Heavier and bulkier
  • Lower efficiency, higher idle draw

Rule of thumb: if your loads are mostly electronics, lights, and small appliances, a high-frequency unit is lighter and cheaper for the job. If you're running well pumps, air compressors, power tools, or anything else with a motor that draws a hard surge on startup, a low-frequency inverter is the more dependable choice.
